Greetings and welcome to the official homepage of the Epsilon Zeta Alumni Association! The purpose of the EZAA is to keep the alumni of the Epsilon Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Omega informed about the chapter's goings on, events, and ways to stay active by participating in service events. It is also a great way for EZ alumni to keep in touch.

The fall 2008 EZAA meeting was held on December 29th at 2:30 p.m. at the National Convention going on in Boston, MA. Many brothers (active as well as alumni) were present. We held the annual elections and our new officers are as follows:

Member at Large - Charlie Dreisbach
Among the things decided at the meeting were to:
- delay the decision of the Outstanding Alumni Award for 2007 until at earliest the next meeting (we will try to get more information about nominees, as well as more nominees)
- hold the next meeting as a hybrid real-life / teleconference on February 14 at about 2:00 p.m. (to coincide with RPI's Big Red Freakout)
- look into an endowment for giving money to the active chapter through the EZAA
- the active chapter will share a Google calendar that will be kept updated with EZ and EZAA events

Fall Meeting at Nationals
As you may or may not know, the 2008 APO National Convention is going to be in Boston, MA from December 27-30. (The official convention website can be accessed at http://convention.apo.org) The EZAA has decided to schedule our fall 2008 meeting to take place during Nationals, and will occur on December 29th from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Copley Hotel, which is where Nationals will be held. (The exact room is TBA.) You do not have to be registered to attend the EZAA meeting, so even if you're not planning to come to the convention but are still in the Boston area, I encourage you to stop by and attend.
The fall 2008 meeting will consist of regular business, plus our annual elections. If you would like to run for a position, but will be unable to make the meeting, please let me know ahead of time so we can consider you as a candidate during the meeting.
Epsilon Zeta Needs Help at Nationals!
In addition to the EZAA meeting at Nationals, Epsilon Zeta has decided to serve as the Printing & Publishing comittee and they could use some assistance. Elena, the co-chair of the committee, has asked that "All we could really use as help from you guys would be general reporting on the events happening. We're putting together a daily newsletter for the duration of the conference, so if any of the alumni would like to sign up to write small blurbs about what's going on, that would help us make the content of the newsletter more informative. This help, together with possibly stopping by and saying hello ;), would be greatly appreciated. I guess a good deadline for alumni offering support would be end of this month, October 31." Her e-mail address is elena.sebe@gmail.com, or you can e-mail me directly and I will let her know if you are interested in volunteering.
2007 Outstanding Alumni Award
We are still soliciting nominations for the 2007 Outstanding Alumni Award, and nominations will be accepted until November 30th. More information is available on the Nomination Form PDF. This award hasn't been given out for 10 years, and will be retroactively awarded for 2007. The next time it will be given out is 2012 at EZ's 65th anniversary.

The EZAA has a Facebook group. Please join and stay up-to-date with our activities. Please note that you must be a member of the RPI community on Facebook in order to join.

Outstanding Alumni Award Posted February 12, 2008 9:15 am by pasqua
It was decided at the fall 2007 EZAA meeting that we revitalize the Outstanding Alumni Award. You may have seen the plaque for it in the Epsilon Zeta chapter office. It hasn't been given out in over 10 years. We are soliciting nominations to retroactively award the 2007 OAA to an alumni of the Epsilon Zeta chapter who has demonstrated outstanding service in her/his life.
The nomination form (PDF, 108 kb) includes more details about the nomination process and the award itself.
Nominations can be sent via e-mail to myself or any other of the EZAA officers (see http://www.apoezaa.org/about/index.php for e-mail addresses), or by mail to:

Upcoming Spring Meeting Posted January 25, 2008 12:39 pm by pasqua
Spring 2008 has arrived (where has the time gone?) and the spring EZAA meeting is right around the corner. Mark your calendar for February 2, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the Union, room 3202. This is right before the Big Red Freakout hockey game, so hopefully plenty of people will be able to attend!
The tentative agenda will be to decide exactly how we are going to handle the selection for the 2007 (and subsequent) Outstanding Alumni Award recipient(s), determine the time/date for the fall 2008 business and election meeting, and gauge interest for any late spring / summer / early fall events.
As always, let me know if there are any questions / concerns / comments / etc.
I hope everybody enjoyed the holidays and is ready for a great new year!

Election Meeting January 21st Posted January 3, 2007 9:02 pm by pasqua
The Big Red Feakout weekend is approaching! Saturday, January 20th is the date of the big game. Beforehand (from 4:30 p.m. until game time) there will be a reception to meet and greet the alumni and current chapter members.
Sunday, January 21st is the date of our spring meeting. It will start at roughly 11 a.m. in Union room 3202. There will be an election taking place that day! This means that all of the chapter positions will be up and any active voting member will be able to run for any one of the positions. (The offices are president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, extension and member at large.) I highly encourage you to attend, and let other EZAA members know as well. A large turnout would be great.
Other big agenda items include the 60th anniversary banquet (which is rapidly approaching) as well as a possible class gift to RPI to coincide with our 60th.
Spring Meeting & Officer Elections Posted November 26, 2006 11:43 am by pasqua
The next EZAA meeting has been scheduled for Sunday, January 21st at 11 a.m. (The location is to be determined, but will be announced as the date approaches.) This is conveniently the day after the Big Red Freakout hockey game, so hopefully a lot of alumni will be able to attend.
The biggest item on the agenda for the upcoming meeting is the next round of officer elections. I encourage everybody to read the bylaws (which are accessible on the website at the documents page) to get familiar with our offices and the duties of each position. If you are interested in running, please plan on attending the meeting. If you have any specific questions about officer duties, feel free to send an e-mail to the current officers.
The EZAA is also planning a get-together which will happen sometime before the Big Red Freakout hockey game on the 20th. This will be a great time to catch up with fellow alumni and meet the active brothers. More details will be posted on the website, and another e-mail will go out as the specifics are planned.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions regarding the direction of the EZAA.

There are a few things that will be covered at the meeting such as: the 60th Anniversary Banquet, the EZAA bylaws, date and location for the spring 2007 meeting, and other topics regarding the direction of the alumni association.
This will be a great opportunity to voice your opinion about the alumni association, what you think we should be doing, where we should be going, what sort of services we should provide, activities we should host, etc.
I hope to see you all there,

Website Updates, Directory Information Posted April 4, 2006 5:05 pm by pasqua
Here are a few quick updates:
Newsletters have been mailed to those with only "snail-mail" addresses on file. I encourage all EZ alumni who have e-mail to sign up for our Google Group. You do not need a Google account to join. (Here is a screenshot of the correct link to click to join the Google Group.)
Signing up for the Google Group will ensure that you remain up-to-date with current EZAA goings on. It will become the main form of communication to EZAA members, and eventually it will replace individual e-mails and paper mailings. (Paper mailings will still be available for a small fee to cover printing and postage costs.)
Past newspaper articles featuring Epsilon Zeta, going back to our founding in 1947, have been posted on the website. This includes a few articles from the past few years as well as a large collection of old articles.
Recent photographs from this semester as well as last semester have been posted on the photo gallery. I'd like to thank all of the alumni who have helped me to categorize and identify the unknown photos!
I've gotten a few inquiries about an EZAA directory. It is currently in the works, I am waiting to see how many of the snail mail addresses I have are valid. A directory will be avilable for purchase upon individual demand by mid-May. Stay tuned for more information including prices. (Price will include printing, binding and shipping.)
If there are any questions or concerns, or if there is something you'd like to see happen with the EZAA, my inbox is always open, feel free to send me an e-mail!

Alyssa J. Pasquale

Historical Items Requested Posted December 19, 2005 4:23 pm by pasqua
Epsilon Zeta has been busy compiling and organizing our chapter's history in the RPI Institute Archives. This process has taken over two years and has led to the creation of the 2004 Josiah Frank Historian Award application.
This project has finally been completed as of October 2005, as the collection is completely organized and has been inventoried, the last step in the process.
However, there are a few gaps in our records. We would like to request that anybody possessing either electronic or hard copies of these items to please donate them to the Epsilon Zeta chapter.
Check out the list here.
Any electronic copies can be sent via e-mail to Alyssa Pasquale: pasqua (at) alum.rpi.edu.
EZ thanks you very much for your help!

Epsilon Zeta Wins Two National Awards Posted January 2, 2005 9:17 am by pasqua
This past National Convention was one that will be remembered for a long time in Epsilon Zeta.
Our chapter brought home not only an unprecedented fourth Dean Arno Nowotny National Service Award, but also brought home the chapter's first Josiah Frank Historian's Award.
We were the only chapter at this convention to bring home two National awards. The last time Epsilon Zeta won two National awards was in 1984 when we won our unprecedented second Nowotny and the very first Disborough Award ever awarded by Nationals.
A lot of hard work and dedication was put forth by the Brothers of Epsilon Zeta over these past two years, and they should all be congratulated for their efforts.
Copies of the award application are available by checking out this site.

Meanest Man on Campus mentioned in Times Union Posted April 15, 2004 9:15 am by pasqua
This article was featured in the Times Union on March 31, 2004.
RPI voters look for Mr. Mean in Grand Marshal week tradition
Scrooge? A swell guy. Darth Vader? A real mensch. Bonnie and Clyde? Righteous.
At least they are at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this week, where the race is on to be voted "Meanest Man on Campus," and the nice finish last.
The event is held annually by the campus' chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity. Students, faculty and staff compete to be named meanest; votes cost a penny apiece and the person who garners the most wins.
Last year's Meanest Man, faculty member Douglas Baxter, wrote to the RPI student newspaper last fall in an early re-election bid. "My goal of making parking farther from campus is also reaping huge rewards," he wrote then. "I am delighted that you are putting up with this. If you don't elect me again, I'll convince the parking office to go a step further and move your parking spot to a location that will be conveniently located just east of Logan Airport."
The competition is part of RPI's Grand Marshal week, a 120-year-old tradition that features student-run activities and events.
(Not part of article) Meanest Man on Campus proceeds (over $1,800) went to the Ronald McDonald House in Albany.
