Yf, Andy Moroney (HCS) ___________________________________________________________________________ THE GLUMP page 2 Treasury Report ---------------- The books for the 1994 Fiscal Year have been closed out. A complete record was presented in February's newsletter and at the ECOM meeting. To summarize quickly, the EZAA closed the fiscal year (1/94 to 12/94) with an checking account balance of $1153.57. This was the result of dues and generous donations from over 86 members. My thanks to one and all! The current fiscal year is going well, but there are a few problems. So far only fifty seven member have registered for this year (FY95) - not as strong as last year. Our problems from pre-1994 have not been resolved and are still with us. In addition, the 50th Anniversary is coming up which will put a strong drain on our treasury (the banquet hall deposit alone will run about a $1000). Below is an account of the finances to date under my care. As always if anyone wishes to review the records, please feel free to contact me: Initial Balance (Carry forward from 1994) $ 1153.57 Income: Dues received: $ 570.00 Donations Received: $ 375.00 -------------------------- ---------- Total Income for this year: $ 945.00 Liabilities: Donations toward the 50th Reunion: $ 110.00 Expenses: Printing Costs for Winter Newsletter: $ 41.00 Mailing Costs for Winter Newsletter: $ 229.60 ------------------------------------- ---------- Total Expenses as of August 1, 1995: $ 270.60 Bank Account Balance as of 8/1/95: $ 1827.97 Available Cash as of 8/1/95: $ 1717.97 Note that the above does not include the following expenses: Printing costs of the Summer Newsletter (estimated): $ 200.00 Mailing costs of the Summer Newsletter (estimated): $ 250.00 National Dues: $ 15.00 Mailing costs for the 1994 Directories: $ 205.75 This leaves us with an effective cash-on-hand of $1047.22. Unless we can raise further funds, the EZAA may have to once again ask it's members for a loan in order to meeted deposit requirements for the 50th Anniversary. Yearly Dues for this calendar year (1995) are now due - see the Due's Form at the end of the news letter! Donations are always welcomed (and encouraged) to THE GLUMP page 3 ("Treasury Report" Con't) help us meet expenses! Cost saving ideas always appreciated. I have gotten several suggestions over the past year - all of which have been investigated (and some even implemented). In addition, Brother volunteered time has also saved us money. All efforts are welcomed. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments! Thanks! Yf, Andy ("Send lawyers, guns, and money!") Moroney ___________________________________________________________________________ NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT: -------------------------- Greetings, and welcome once again to the President's corner. In many ways things have been quiet around here, Perhaps too quiet. A storm, hopefully, one that will be quite rewarding, is begining to brew - the organization of the 50th Anniversary Reunion. Ken Bienstock is the chair. The primary concern at this point is the reservation of a banquet location, as it will be necessary to book quite some time in advance in order to assure any location is available. If you wish to assist in any way, contact Ken. Once upon a time, the Alumni Association had organized several local branches, which would provide 'regional' events for our Brothers who were interested in participating. Although talk about resuccitating this aspect of the Alumni Association has been discussed, not terribly much has occurred on actually doing anything with this. If those who were previously involved could send information on what had occurred, or those who are interested in restarting this long-lost tradition would speak up, perhaps we could get this up and running again. An idea I had passed around a while back was the concept of having a service directory, from which Brothers who have newly moved into an area (or even perhaps some lazy Brothers who simply have not looked around) might find outlets for their interest in service. Some information has trickled back from the dues forms, and will hopefully be compiled into a whole soon. If you wish to have some group or activity 'advertised' in this, please send the information in. Don't forget that the October EZAA meeting coming up is a Full Business Meeting with EZAA Officer Elections. Get involved! I hope to see many of you there. yf, Paul Lavoie (pjl) ___________________________________________________________________________ Subliminal Message: Send info for "News and Notes" ___________________________________________________________________________ THE GLUMP page 4 News and Notes: --------------- As I have said, this is your section. Please help me fill it! Even if you have already paid dues or are a little strapped right now, sends us some info anyway (and update our mailing list as well!). When submitting E-mail copy, please include your full name and class. I cannot always decipher the last name from the E-mail address, especially those from CompuServe (c), any miltary installations, or using University class accounts. New news will be printed in the next February newsletter. Newsletter Disclaimer: The editor is NOT responsible for the opinions in this section....(but he reserves the right to tone things down). Here we go: Leslie J. Hoffman '48 "I'm semi-retired and work flex hours at Orange Research Inc. after founding the company 27 years ago. I'm enjoying sailing catboats, working with G-scale train sets, and working in the house and yard." Leon Langer '49 "I recently returned from a "submarine" trip on the Seaworld Explorer at St. Martin. Nice coral, but not too many fish because I had my face pressed against the window and scared most of them away. As the old saying goes - 'My face I don't mind it because I'm behind it, the people in front get the jolt.'" Donald S. Robinson, M.D. '49 "I recently participated in a humanitarian medical exchange trip to Yaroslave, Russia with several other physicians from the University of Vermont, College of Medicine." Stu Berg '67 "My son, Brian, a Senior at Ithaca High School, was just accepted at S.U.N.Y. Fredonia and will begin in September, 1995. He is a Life Scout. He and I have been very active in scouting ever since Tiger Cubs. His sister, Amy, is currently a Sophomore at Union College." Sidney Hollander '70/'71 "In 1994, I was elected President of San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society, a non-profit corporation that supports several National Wildlife Refuges on the West Coast." Jay F. Lubin '71 "I finally moved to Connecticut where my business has been for five years (an actuarial consulting and insurance marketing firm). I'm also a Captain in the Naval Reserve, commanding an aviation supply unit based in Philadelphia (and having a good time)." George Spagna '73 "For what it's worth, I'm still teaching at Randolph-Macon, where I chair a small physics department at a liberal arts college which is very different from Rensselaer. My oldest daughter, Amy, is a classics/Latin major here, and will work on an archeology dig in Athens next summer. My younger daughter, Kim, now wants to pursue a medical career, though between now and high school THE GLUMP page 5 ("News and Notes" Con't) graduation (let alone going to College!) that may change again. When I'm not at the College, I seem to spend a great deal of my week working for and in the church, where I am one of the elected Vestry members and serve as a Warden in charge of our physical plant." John Moore, Scout Advisor '74 - '77 "Just moved to serve scouting in the Jersey Shore Council, Tom's River, New Jersey. There is no APO chapter in the counsel yet." Steve Herman '74 "Still living on the beach. Still computer consulting. Guests welcome, but call first." Gary Enders '76 "In September, I left family practice and took a full time position in Emergency medicine in Corning, N.Y. Although real life ER is not as exciting as that Thursday night TV show, I've enjoyed acute care medicine as well as more free time. My wife Becky and I still live in Corning with our three children - Sarah (15), Melissa (13), and David (10). In November '94, Becky, Sarah, and I volunteered for a week at a missionary medical clinic in San La Mar, Jamaica. I saw 70 patients the first day and 147 the last day. Although this would be impossible in most practices in the States, the Jamaican clinic was rather simple with no phone, no lab, no charge forms to fill out, and the chart consisted of a 3x5 card. The patients were very appreciative of our help despite a lack of facilities. One baby I saw was born with an extra finger but the mother could not afford to pay a Jamaican doctor to take it off. Fortunately, I was able to take the finger off for free. One day, I visited the Jamaican hospital and saw a 10 yr. boy turned out of the ER with a badly fractured arm because there was no radiology technician to do an X-ray. It rained everyday we were in Jamaica and tropical storm Gordon also made an appearance." Rick Brodzinsky '77 and Jackie Bailey '78 "Not too much has been going on - kids are growing and driving us nuts." Kathy Goff '78 (As of 4/95) "I'm three fourths through third year of medical school. After some tough times at the beginning of the year making the transition from class work to clinical work, I'm back to thinking this is a dream come true. Most likely I will go into Family Practice although Pediatrics still tugs at my heart strings. Meanwhile, I'm making plans for 4th year which may include a month in Arizona working for the Indian Heath Services." James Calabrese '79 "We had a new house built and moved in last October. Jim's office was moved closer to home soon after. Jean is the Executive Director for the Community Literacy Council and teaches part-time. Greg will be in 3rd grade in the fall. Mark will be in the 2nd grade. Both boys are very bright." Tom Magrino '79 "Still in San Diego practicing general and colon and rectal surgery at the Navy Hospital. Wife Kathy and 3 kids (Tommy, Nichole, and Alex) love San Diego. We plan to stay here, in the Navy, for a while." THE GLUMP page 6 ("News and Notes" Con't) Ian Freirich '80 According to Paul Sicard, Ian has a "Smart but Weird" reputation that he hopes will evolve to "Smart but Eccentric." Ian is also contributing to Internet usage with match-making attempts for Bob Petrides, '78. Additional- ly, Ian is also proud to be a card-carrying member of the Republican National Committee's Steering Committee. (Editor's Note: Any comment Ian or Bob? See what happens if I don't hear from you?) Tom & Yasmine McNellis, '81 & '82 "We have a new addition to our family, Kiana Marie, born June 15th at 8:58 PM, weighing 7 lb 12 oz and 20 inches long. Her big sister, Risa Elana, is now 2.5 years old; talking like a parrot and very much an active, healthy toddler with endless energy. Risa is coping pretty well with her new sister; she hasn't asked for Kiana to be sent back yet! Kiana is pretty good baby; she only gets up once during the night, and except for one fussy period during the day, she sleeps most of the day as well. Tom and I are doing very well. I finished my project in Philadelphia prior to my maternity leave (well, I had to!). I developed an auto and homeowners insurance underwriting expert system while there. The system is in production now and I haven't received any panic calls yet, so it must be working alright. Tom is managing lots of new projects, one of them on intelligent highways, and pulling lots of all nighters in the process. He is also becoming a regular on the Washington bound Amtrak's Metroliner and a regular visitor to Huntsville, AL. We're looking forward to our yearly vacation at Cape Cod this August and hopefully we will go to Puerto Rico to visit family next January." Deborah F. Miller, M.D. '82 (Written 4/95) "Wedding date is set for June 17, 1995. Will marry Andrew David Cohen - tennis player, banker, and all around good guy. Any aspiring women physicians, please call!" Tim Shaughnessy '82 "Glenn and I moved into our first house (townhouse that is). Yes, the three little yip dogs came along. I'm still at H.P. (11 years!), but my student loans are paid off. Boy, do I feel old! I'm doing marketing for our Unix servers for Asia. Yes, some travel, but not too much. I get to compare airports, hotels, and office buildings all over the world. If I'm really lucky, I even get to sample local food and some of the local sights." Richard Towne '82 and Melinda (Johnson) Towne '91 (Written 4/95) "Mel is due to pop on June 20th so, obviously, this is when I decided to renovate our kitchen, which I must finish before I can re-do the office which I have to do before I can start remodeling the baby's room. In May, I'm going to Toronto to compete in regional Oqui' tournament. Our team won the Baltimore Divisional Championship. Mel, unfortunately, had to sit this season out due to her expanding belly. We haven't been back to Troy since we sold Congress Street two years ago. Looking forward to the 50th." (Editor's note: Mel and Rich had a baby girl.) Stephanie Heydt Foster '83 "We're still fixing up the "old" house. I will be receiving my fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in July. Paul and the boys are doing great." THE GLUMP page 7 ("News and Notes" Con't) Dave Loveless '83 Dave is an NRC Inspector at the South Texas Project Nuclear Plant near Houston, TX. Steve and Nadine Austin '84 "We had a little miracle in our household last Friday (4/21) at 4:29 AM with the birth of our daughter Amy Kathrine. She is adorable! She weighed in at 8 lbs and 1 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. She has a full head of black hair too. Mom is doing fine as is Amy and all are at home adjusting to our new life together." Catherine Graichen '84 "We are happy to announce the birth of our son, Bryce Gareth Recer, on April 4, 1995. He weighed in at 6lbs 6oz, and measured 20-1/2 inches. Before we became housebound with Bryce, we spent 10 days (in January) visiting Hawaii. We saw Volcanoes National Park and spent time on Kauai - both areas were wonderful." Gary Cattarin ("Cat") '85 "News from my front....(oh my god, it's been TEN YEARS!) Extremely happily married almost two years now to Ann. Will complete my MBA from Babson College in May - five and a half long years in the institution finally draw to a close! (Ann got her MBA at Babson in '88.) Now, let's see...if I got my BS in '85, MBA in '95, what about '05? No dice. Sick of it. No way. Never. (Am I making myself clear?) Working for Madge Networks as a Network Engineer covering clients all across New England. Racking up lots of miles - kind of like college, eh? Getting into neat new technologies like ATM, etc. Ann and I just came back from a week in the Caribbean where we attended a "conference" courtesy of Madge. Seriously, we had business meetings - in St. Lucia! Really! But we had plenty of high-class fun, too. This was "Performance Club" - the reward for a lot of hard work and over-achieving on sales quota. In fact, New England was top territory for Madge Americas in '94. Nice little perk!!" Ralph A. Franco Jr., M.I. '85 Ralph is finishing up his residency and may eventually stop procrastinating and finish up his paper so he can graduate in August with a Masters in Healthcare Administration. Laura is coming up to Fort Hood to join Ralph in April." Joseph Montrym '86 "Sherry and I are the proud parents of a newborn boy, Jackson Davis Montrym (born March 21, 1995). We are currently adjusting to being parents, as our bundle of joy is quite a handful!" Bob Philhower '86 "Hi y'all, I've bought a house and am now closer to everything. (Since I'm closer to a major road). The new house about triples my living space --- those who visited my last place know that's pretty easy! --- and has lake rights on Lake Carmel. I'm in Putnam County, New York. Come by and visit!" Matthew Terriblie '86 "I recently moved to Raleigh, NC as part of the IBM Aptiva development team. I am responsible for the Aptiva video and graphics. I've been a Scoutmaster for the last year, first in Lexington, now in Raleigh." THE GLUMP page 8 ("News and Notes" Con't) Tamar Wexler '86 Tamar and Bernie have had a baby girl, Miriam Hannah Szabo-Wexler, on Friday morning. Miriam weighed in at 7 lbs 5.5 oz. They now have one of each! Both mother and daughter are fine, albeit a bit tired. Ian Douglas Agranat '87 "My life has centered around work lately. In recent months, I have expanded my business to a total of five employees (which leaves me with the feeling of being responsible for eight kids, three wives, husband, and four mortgages). We are changing the focus of the business away from hourly on-site contracting towards a combination of fixed-bid off-site contracting and embedded software products for the data communications industry. In my spare time, I have managed to remain active in the community. I am the sectional representative and an advisor to the APO petitioning group at Wellesley College. I am serving as chairman of the board of directors for People Making a Difference (a non-profit APO-like service group in Boston). And I continue my fundraising efforts for various battered women's shelters and rape crisis centers in the Boston suburbs. Finally, I recently served on a technology review committee for the Weston public school system." Sharon Zohar '87 "I've been VERY busy with work, MBA classes (UConn West Hartford), APO (Sectional Staff), photography, and my latest project: building a professional network for women in information technology (WiIT) in the Hartford area. Also, I'm (finally) on-line and loving it - drop me a note! (email - 75277.620@compuserve.com)." Judy Eng '88 "Busy with work and taking care of my 7 month old nephew Nicholas." Andy Moroney '88 "Emily and I recently acquired a new addition to the family - a 74 lbs., 3-1/2' greyhound dog (O.K. he's actually black). Darby is 2 years old and adopted from a Greyhound Rescue League. He's quiet and fairly well behaved. Everyone is settling in well." Christine Wickham '88 Chris has recently quit government work, moved back home to Conneticut, and now works for Bayer Corporation. Lynnette Mokry '89 "Doug and I are living in Syracuse, NY now. We've moved a couple of times since I graduated (like about 5 times actually), but I think we've found a place to stay for a while. I am working at Blasland, Bouck & Lee, a fairly good size environmental consulting firm, with headquarters in Syracuse. I really like it there - the people are great and the position (project geologist) is challenging! I'm working on remedial investigations/ feasibility studies, and environmental site assessments (mostly for Fortune 500 companies)." Douglas Gibson '90 "Big news! Susan Kirk and I are now engaged (as of March '95), and are working on wedding plans for April '96. We are renting a house in Wolcott, NY (halfway between Rochester and Syracuse). I have about a 40 minute commute, THE GLUMP page 9 ("News and Notes" Con't) Sue's is about 50 minutes. The July 1 move went fine, once we finally got a moving van... Many thanks go out to Rob, Chris, Andy, and Emily for helping out that weekend." Yasser Syed '90 "P.H.D.ing in Image Processing at University of Texas at Arlington." Kathy and Paul Dallimagn '90 Paul is in San Diego, CA learning to fly S-3 Vikings. His old plane, an A-6 Intruder - was/is decommissioned - no longer flying. Kathy and Maggie are in VA Beach raising Cain - finding a job, sewing, quilting, swimming, going to ballet. By Christmas '95, they should be moving to Jacksonville, FL and where they hope to stay a few years. Joel Lord '94 "I graduated in December '94, am currently living in Watervliet." __________________________________________________________________________ Minutes of the ECOM Meeting of the EZAA April 9, 1995 ------------------------------------------------------ Meeting called to order at 11:13AM - All six ECOM members present * Discussions regarding EZAA funds prior to September, 1993. - No word from either Chuck Carletta, RPI, or the Troy police. - Jamie Tedeshi mentioned that the Troy Police have been given all the information on the case, but seem to have given it a low proirity. - Motion for Ken Bienstock to contact Chuck Carletta to see if there is any further information. Motion passes. * Future Gatherings: - Rob Rommel will handle the plans for the Fall Reunion/Business Meeting - Jim Guilford is planning a White Water Rafting Trip for this June '95. The event has been published in the Winter Edition of the Glump already. - Discussions held on the possibility of a Summer event. However, since Jim already had one going, no other was brought up. - Reminder to all Brother's that the Glump is more than willing to advertise about Alumni gatherings/events. * Treasurer's Report (HCS): - Not a whole lot has changed since the report in the February edition of the Glump. - Dues and donations for this year are starting to come in, but have not yet been tallied up (too recent). - We have 86 dues paying member for the 1994 calendar year. - Current funds in the account is: - However, the deposits required for the 50th Reunion Banquet Hall are very likely to put us in the red.... THE GLUMP page 10 ("EZAA ECOM Minutes" Con't) * Member-at-Large's Report (AMB): - The APO National Office now owns their building due to the actions of the Board of Directors and the National Capital Campaign - National is also putting together a National Alumni Association. o No need to register at this point and time. o If you are receiving the standard bulletins and mailer requests, National knows where you are. o Things are just getting off the ground right now and there are National requests for donations being sent out. - Straw pole to see if a copy of the EZAA Alumni Directory should be sent to the National Office. o Strong "NO!" o Brothers' have a right to privacy and may not wish to have there address known to the National Office. o A line will be added to the Glump for those who wish to have there name passed to the National Office. * Vice President's Report (!MOOB) - 10 Alumni went to help out with the Sunnyside Center's Easter Egg Hunt this weekend. - Weekend as a whole has been very successful. - Question brought up regarding DSK awards. o It has been traditional for the Alumni Association to pay for Life Membership dues to National for award winners. o While the Alumni Association "hiatus" happened (1993), this was not done. Do we want to continue the practice? o Due to the financial condition of the EZAA, a decision was made to pay a part of the dues for a while (at least until we can build up the accounts again and pay for the 50th). * Extension Chair's Report (Ken): Part I - 50th Reunion - The EZ Chapter is doing well and showing signs of growth. - Cindy has been doing research for the 50th Anniversary Banquet and presented results: o Have researched 5 hotels and 4 banquet halls o Of the banquet halls (which needs to be decided fairly soon to make deadlines), two stand out as the best: - The Desmond Americana - an excellent but somewhat pricy hotel. - Micheal's - a cheaper alternative, but with no hotel, and less tolerance to dates and changes. - Ken made a request to have Cindy look into buffets at both locations. - Ken also asked about trying to allow for a subsidy for students. - Jamie suggested to try and arrange things like a Regional Conference - try to book things as one big package. - Since deadlines will occur before General Business meeting in the Fall, Motion was made to recommend that the 50th Reunion committee try to book the Desmond with Micheals as a secondary choice. o Motion passes. - Goal of the 50th Reunion is to have 200-300 Alumni Present. - We need an official committee started. o Advertisement wil be placed in the Glump. THE GLUMP page 11 ("EZAA ECOM Minutes" Con't) * Open topics: - Paul is asking for help in putting together the Service Directory. o People are responding to the request for info in the Winter Glump. o Micheal Beyer has volunteered to help, others needed. o Suggestion by Andy Braverman to talk to National regarding further info. - Next meeting is the General Business meeting to be held October 15th, 1995 at 11 AM. * Extension Chair's Report (Ken): Part II - Other Business - We have recently lost our RPI IRIS database contact, which is responsible for creating our label and the directories. - There is a special procedure for creating labels and directories, but the the replacement IRIS contact will not run the procedures for one reason or another and is not responding in a timingly manner. - We may need to contact the Alumni House as a possible alternative set of contacts. - Ken also expressed an apology to all persons who may be missing in the directory as a result of these difficulties. (Editor's Note: Please see the Secretary's Notes for further updates on this matter). * Chapter President Henson asks for project ideas due to possible coverage on national cable station. Meeting over at 12:15 PM. ___________________________________________________________________________ 50th Anniversary Reunion: HHHEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!! ----------------------------------------------------- The 50th Reunion, scheduled for May of 1997, is fast approaching! As all of you know by now, Ken Bienstock is chairing the 50th Anniversary Reunion. Many of you have suggested that this is a wonderful goal. Many of you have also said that you would love to help out. Well the time has come! Ken needs YOUR help NOW!!! Ken is asking for ideas for the Reunion as well as comments about previous reunions (what was good, what didn't work out etc.). We also need people to help out on committees and actually get the work done. Some committees (Like the Hotel and Banquet Hall) are already at work, but they need more help (the banquet hall will have to be booked in the coming month)! Many of you volunteered at the 45th Anniversary to help out with the 50th Anniversary (I took names and still have the minutes - manical laughter in the background). Time for the follow-through! In addition, the reunion will be key agenda item at the Fall Business Meeting. Please participate there too! ___________________________________________________________________________ THE GLUMP page 12 Alumni Weekend and Fall Business Meeting ---------------------------------------- The Annual Fall EZAA Reunion will be on October 14th and 15th at RPI. As always, the Fall Reunion also includes the EZAA Business Meeting. Since this is a full business meeting, all EZ Alumni are encouraged to attend and contribute to any discussions. As always, there will be events with the active brothers during the course of weekend. Rob Rommel will be in charge of events and chapter coordination. The time of the meeting will be 11 AM, on October 15th, 1995. Primary topics for the Business Meeting will be for Officer voting and the Fifthieth Reunion Celibration. While we are on the subject, let me make pitch: Every year, we need five volunteers to help keep the EZAA going (the President, Vice President, Member-at- Large, Treasurer/Secretary, and the Extension chairman). These five, along with the Chapter President, form the EZAA ECOM. Last year, all five ran unopposed and were declared by acclaimation. While this could suggest resounding approval from the Brotherhood, it could also suggest apathy. Please don't let it be the second...Be involved! Run for office! Be on a committee. PARTICIPATE!!!! Alumni planning to attend should contact one of the EZAA ECOM members or the Chapter to allow for proper planning. If you cannot make it, but would like to contribute, please feel free to contact any of the current EZAA E-Comm members below: President: Vice-President: ---------- --------------- Paul Lavoie (pjl) Robert Rommel (!MOOB) 80 Gill Lane, Apt. 1-D 9 Sir Winston Iselin, NJ 08830 London Square Apt. If you wish to add your own E-mail address to the official list or change an existing one please contact Ken as he keeps the "Master List". Also, if you wish to receive the EZAA newsletter through E-mail instead of the U.S. mail service (and save us the postage), please send me E-mail at the addresses above. A number of you have requested this and it saves us money! __________________________________________________________________________ Involved in local Community Service? Let's hear about from you? --------------------------------------------------------------- At the last Fall Business Meeting, Paul Lavoie suggested that people who wish to be involved in their local community may benefit from other people's service minded suggestions, especially when moving into a new area. Therefore, the membership form at the back of the newsletter has a new line for folks to list any service organizations that they belong to or know of as worthwhile (as few words about it would be appreciated. The eventual goal is to have a community listing of these organizations available to the EZAA for the asking. Please contribute! A number of you have already participated and it is greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work! __________________________________________________________________________ PIZZA!!!! (OH YEAH, AND NATIONAL SERVICE DAY)! ---------------------------------------------- Now that I have your attention, a bulletin from Joe Lord ('94)..... On November 4, the chapter is having a Section-wide service project for National Service Day. The project specifics haven't been decided yet, but it will have an environmental theme. Afterward, there will a pizza party thrown by the ACtive Chapter. Homemade pizza will be served at 7:00pm in the Union, Room 240-243. We're expecting close to 100 people, so reservations are required for both the project and the party at least a week in advance (preferrably 2 weeks). Any interested parties should contact Joe Lord through the chapter office. The 1994 Alumni Directory have been distributed. All those who paid 1994 dues and requested one on the dues form should have one. We have had a number of problems with the directories including a number of "lost" alumni and loss of recent EZ graduates' records. In addition, our former RPI Adminstration contact was not very helpful in getting us either mailing labels or directories and caused us a good deal of grief. However, a new contact has taken over since the last newsletter and has been very helpful, so things are about on track again. If you have not received your directory yet, but have paid dues for the *1994* calender year (and marked the form that you wanted one), do the following: 1) Scream in frustration until you get it out of your system. 2) Make sure all your anger and frustration are gone. 3) Put on some mellow music. 4) Then call/contact me (I dislike people yelling at me) 5) I'll then do my best to apologies and then correct the problem. Another contact for the directories is Ken Bienstock. Ken is the person who actually handles the directories, but I'm trying to help him out as he has his hands full with the 50th Reunion. Besides, if you haven't received one, it probably means that I didn't give him your name (which also means that there's an error in the Treasury Records). So see me. THE GLUMP page 15 ("Alumni Directory and the Next Newsletter" Con't) By the way, several of you have requested an electronic version of the Alumni Directory. We cannot do this (couldn't think of anyway else to say it). Many of the address/telephone numbers we hold are held in confidence. Not even RPI makes use of some of them (don't ask, it's complicated). E-mail is notoriously public, and anything sent out over E-mail can quickly be re- distributed. Therefore, we cannot send what amounts to a confidential mailing list though E-mail. All it takes is one mistake (or tap/intrusion) and we have a severe annoyance on our hands. Hardcopies only (Sorry...). Deadlines for the next Glump are January 15, 1996. This will be for the Winter '96 edition. All are encouraged to submit articles, news, notes, etc. Those who don't write anything, take the risk that the editor may do it for them. If you know of any large gathering of Alumni, please write in! Also, if you would to have a advertise a gathering, please write up an article and I (or the next Treasurer/Secretary) will publish it for you in the next issue. Some quick thank you's to Ian Agranat ('87), and Jim Guildford ('83) for their help in Glump stuffing for the Winter '95 Newsletter. Your efforts were much appreciated. And one special thanks: Thanks once more to my lovely wife for putting up with the Glump for a second year. I know I've driven you crazy, but I appreciated everything you have done to help. yf, HCS __________________________________________________________________________ Dues and Information Form: -------------------------- We are still accepting 1995 Alumni dues. The 1995 dues are still $10 per member. Your dues help publish this newsletter and the Alumni Directory as well pay administration costs (National Dues, stationary, etc.). In addition, the funds are used to help prepare for the 50th anniversary such as Banquet Hall deposits which are needed very shortly (HELP!). Everyone who pays dues gets the satisfaction that they are helping the EZAA carry through on it's mission. For the less civic minded, they also are entitled to a Alumni Directory (which may be even more satisfying). Below is the form for sub- mitting news/notes and for paying EZAA yearly dues. Donations over and above dues are always welcome to help us serve you better. Donations earmarked for special causes (like the 50th Anniversary gift and/or celebration - be specific!) are also welcomed and should also be marked as such on the form. As always, it is quite understandable that some folks may be a little strapped for cash. Please do not let that stop you from filling out the information section and sending that in. We want to hear from you. For that matter, if you have already paid dues for 1995, please fill out the info section anyway. It's been at least 6 months...let us here from you again. Also use the information section for change or addresses, phone numbers, etc. Note: For those who have already paid your 1995 dues, you should have a black dot marked on your address label (i.e. there is a record of your payment). If you have paid dues for 1995, but do not have your address label marked, please contact me immediately. I'll blame it on the computer, pretend to rip out a few diodes, and correct the problem.
